No. 10 seeded Union defeats No. 7 Johnson in the AAC Tournament

Kingsport, Tenn. – The No. 10 seeded Union Commonwealth University baseball team defeated No. 7 seeded Johnson in the AAC Tournament on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs trailed 2-0 after the first inning. In the top of the second, an RBI single by Union's Seth Keener scored Sammy Serrano. In the top of the third, the Bulldogs tied the game at 2-2 when Nathan McCabe recorded an RBI single that scored Sebastian Flores.

Union took a 4-2 lead in the top of the fourth inning when Flores tallied a two-run homer, but Johnson countered by taking a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the inning.

The Bulldogs would regain the lead in the top of the seventh with back-to-back home runs on the first two at bats of the side. Mason Kelley recorded the first homer, while McCabe registered the second. Union led 6-5 after seven innings.

In the top of the eighth inning, the Bulldogs' lead was extended when Logan Romasanta scored off an RBI single by Flores. Later in the side, Colton Stegman scored off an RBI single by Kelley. Union won 8-6 in nine innings.

Braylon Greene was the winning pitcher, while Dalton Kottmer registered a save. Christian McCollough pitched 3.1 innings, which was the most for any Union pitcher. Flores, Kelley, McCabe, and Romasanta each recorded a team-leading two hits.

The Bulldogs are now 18-27, while Johnson is 24-20. Up next for No. 10 Union is a matchup against No. 2 Tennessee Wesleyan on Wednesday, May 1, at 4:00 p.m.
