Royals Too Much for Maryville

KNOXVILLE, Tn- The Royals Men's Tennis team took on the Maryville College Scots. The Royals jumped to a lead early with strong doubles play and never looked back, only dropping one court in the process.  The first point of the day was scored by the team of Daniel Orahood and Jacob Keeling winning 8-0 on the second line. The next win would come at the three spot where Freshmen Camden Jones and Jaden Talley would score their first doubles win of the season 8-1. In a bit tighter of a contest, the number pair of Kaden Buchanan and Gerett Benjamin would pull away late for an 8-5 victory to complete the doubles sweep. 

 

Singles started a bit more tense, dropping down early in the one spot and a tight match at the three tier.  Jaden Talley would cruise to a 6-1, 6-3 win at the second spot while Jacob Keeling tightened up and was able to pull out the win at three 6-3, 7-5.  With the match in hand 5-1, the Royals would cap off the win in style with Camden Jones winning 6-2, 6-0, Gerett Benjamin winning 6-1, 6-3, and Cade Crowe winning 6-2, 6-3. With these final wins at the 4,5,and 6 spots the Royals would take the match 8-1. 

 

"We always are pumped up to play against a local rival in Maryville and they fought very hard throughout the whole match," Coach Hale said afterwards. "We got off to a few slower starts on some courts but at the end of the day we eventually settled into rhythm and started to play our way." 

 

The Royals will return home to play Southwest Virginia Community College on October 8th.
