Royals Off To A Great Start in the AAC Tournament
The Lady Royals opened the AAC Softball Conference tournament against the Montreat College Cavaliers in Kingsport, TN. The Royals were 26-12 on the regular season and are looking for their first AAC Championship in the short history of the program and a hopeful birth to the NAIA National Tournament.
The Royals got off to a good start thanks to a solo homerun by Autumn Caywood in the bottom of the second. Megan Armstrong added to the lead with a single that scored Madison Hood in the bottom of the third. Johnson tacked on two more runs in the fourth thanks to a sacrifice fly by Madison Hood that scored Reece Burns and a pass ball that allowed Ella Hampton to score. That was all Lindy Webber needed as she continues to build on a tremendous season. Webber threw all 7 innings and gave up just 1 run with 8 strikeouts.
Looking ahead, Johnson is set to face the winner of the Reinhardt and Columbia International game on April 30 at 3pm in Kingsport. This next game will be crucial as the Royals continue their pursuit for the conference title. With their current momentum and strong performances across the board, the Royals are well-positioned to make a deep run in the tournament.
