Knoxville, Tenn., August 9, 2021 – Johnson University is pleased to announce that Evan Reed will be joining the athletic department as the Sport Information Director. Evan will bring with him a level of familiarity with the university, as Evan graduated from Johnson in May of 2021. Additionally, he played soccer for three years and was named a captain of the men's soccer team his senior year.
That connection to Johnson is one of the strengths that athletic director Brandon Perry appreciates about Reed. "It's always great when you have one of your former players who decides to become part of the department, and that's what we get with Evan taking over the Sports Information Director position here," Perry said. "It's a new position at Johnson—we've never had a SID here and we're excited it's one of our own."
Perry also said he believes Reed is the right person for the role. "I believe what Evan offers is enthusiasm about sports and a desire to do things the right way, and that's exactly who we want to be. We think the position of SID elevates our status as an athletic department and helps us to take the next step. Also, the fact that it's Evan taking on this role helps push us forward into who we want to be long-term."
When asked what drew him to this position, Evan shared, "I have always loved sports and the mission of Johnson. When I played here, I always enjoyed the culture of the team and the University as a whole. I was really excited to have an opportunity to work for a place that has felt like a second home to me for the past three years, and help Johnson grow as we transition into the National Athletic Intercollegiate Association this year."
