LSUS Tops Johnson to Reach Shreveport Bracket Final, One Win from Lewiston

SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — LSU Shreveport moved one step closer to a return to the Avista NAIA World Series on Tuesday with a 15-4 win over Johnson (Tenn.) in Game 5 of the 2025 NAIA Baseball Opening Round Shreveport Bracket at Pilot Field.

The Pilots (53-0) advance to Wednesday's bracket final, where they will face the winner of Game 7 between Johnson and Mid-America Christian. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.

Ryan Davenport led the charge at the plate for LSUS, going 2-for-4 with five RBIs, including a three-run double in the second inning and a sacrifice fly in the ninth. Diego Aragon added three RBIs, including a two-run single in the final frame. Anthony Swenda chipped in a solo home run as part of a three-hit performance.

The Pilots broke the game open with a six-run third inning, with contributions throughout the lineup. Eight different players drove in runs, including Josh Gibson, Jose Sallorin, and Vantrel Reed, who delivered a two-run double.

Kenneth Schechter (3-0) earned the win in relief, working 3.2 innings with six strikeouts while allowing one run on three hits.

Johnson (Tenn.) got a solo home run from Alonzo Zuniga and an RBI single from Braden Frank, but couldn't close the gap after the early LSUS surge. Kaleb Townsend (1-3) took the loss, allowing eight runs over two innings.
