
Men's Tennis Edges Johnson 4-3
COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College men's tennis team held on to edge conference foe Johnson University (TN) 4-3 at home on Friday afternoon.
Junior Waldo Bosch and sophomore Tiaan Jacobs led the Koalas as each won their singles and doubles matches combining to earn 4 points for CC. Jacobs teamed with sophomore Michael Schiesz to win 6-4 while Bosch teamed with freshman Gabriel Kian to win in a close tiebreaker 7-6 to clinch the doubles points for Columbia. However, senior Liam Barry and sophomore Jonah Haller fell 7-5 in their doubles match.
Bosch led off the singles for CC winning at the top spot 7-5, 6-2 while Barry won a three-set battle 6-0, 5-7, 6-1 to stake CC to a 3-0 lead. Kian and junior Owen Brumfield then each fell in straight sets at 3 and 5 spots respectively, before Haller dropped a tight three-setter at the 4 spot 4-6, 6-3, 2-6 as JU tied the match at 3. However, Jacobs clinched the win for Columbia with an easy 6-0, 6-1 win at the 6 spot.
The Koala men improve to 5-3 overall and 2-3 in the AAC while JU falls to 1-5 in conference and 4-10 overall.
The Columbia tennis teams will next be in action on Tuesday afternoon when they remain home to host Montreat College at 2:00 pm.
