The Royals opened their inaugural season as they hosted Sewanee and Alice Lloyd College. After four games on the young season, the Royals are ranked 7th in the nation for batting average and 4th in the nation for slugging percentage. Casiee Jordan, from Chattanooga Tennessee, is leading the Royals batting .600% with 9 hits thus far in the season. Josie Huff, a freshman from Knoxville Tennessee is batting .467% with 7 hits. The Royals will face Alice Lloyd College, Milligan College, and Oakland City University to finish out the month of February.
In the previous two games against Alice Lloyd College, the Royals put together quality runs until their final outs. In game one of their double header, the Royals scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead. As both teams settled in and traded runs throughout the game, the Royals would push three runs across in the bottom of the seventh inning but fall short losing 11-9. Game two saw the Royals get off to a slow start before scoring in the third inning to pull within distance. A late rally in the seventh inning, scoring three runs with two outs, would make the game interesting, but the Royals would come up short to the Eagles, 7-5.
Head Coach Bryan Woodlief said, "the season is still very young and four games in we are still working to find out who we are. I thought we hit the ball really well against Alice Lloyd, and showed what we are capable of doing. The one thing that stands out right now is the amount of fight we have. Statistically we have improved top to bottom in all four games. This group has a strong desire to improve and that's contagious, and as a coach all I could ask for. I am excited to continue working hard with them."
The Royals will host Alice Lloyd College on February 22nd, Milligan College on February 24th, and Oakland City University of February 28th and 29th.
