No. 5 Men's Tennis Blanks Johnson in AAC Opener

ATHENS, Tenn.- The fifth-ranked men's tennis team played their conference opener on Friday. The team swept the Johnson University 7-0 in their first AAC game of the season. 

Tennessee Wesleyan took the doubles point in their home opener with wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Agustin Gaia and Maceo Simpson won the former 6-0 while Juan Carlos Garcia and Octavio Volpi won the latter with an identical score.

To finish the seven-point sweep, the Bulldogs saw Garcia win the No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-2, Patricio Gallegos won the No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-0, Asier Pascual took the No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-0, Rocco Mariani won the No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-2, Diego Blanco Goytia was winning the No. 5 singles 6-2, 3-0 before his opponent was forced to retire, and Jose Andrade finished the No. 6 singles ahead 6-1, 6-1.  

Tennessee Wesleyan (3-1) will travel for their next conference match against Truett McConnell University on Thursday. The match is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
