No. 6 Women's Tennis Sweeps Johnson in AAC Opener

ATHENS, Tenn.- The women's tennis team played at home for the first time on Friday. The sixth-ranked team in the NAIA hosted the Johnson University Lady Royals in their AAC opener, sweeping the match 7-0.

Scores of 6-0 in the No 2 doubles by Julia Richardet, and Honoka Tsuji and 6-1 in the No. 3 doubles by Jenn Maria Gjos and Paula Cigarran helped the team win the doubles point. The win gave the team a 1-0 lead. 

The sweep was completed with wins in all the singles matches. The wins for the Lady Bulldogs came from Olivia Alcala (6-0, 6-1, No. 1), Gjos (6-1, 7-5, No. 2), Ivet Prat (6-0, 6-1, No. 3), Astrid Staksrud (6-0, 6-4, No. 4), Cigarran (6-0, 6-2, No. 5) and Julieta Beltramino (6,0, 6-1, No. 6).

The Lady Bulldogs (2-2, 1-0) goes on the road for their first true road match of the season against Truett McConnell University on Thursday. The conference match is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
