No. 2 Baseball Drops First Game of Series to Johnson
KNOXVILLE, Tenn.- The second-ranked baseball team began a new Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) series on Friday. The team played the first game of a three-game series against the Johnson University Royals. The team fell 6-3.
Johnson took the first lead of the game in the first inning. TWU was able to take a lead in the third inning.
Geremy Garcia became the first runner of the inning, advancing to second on an error. Chris Catalano followed with a single, which moved courtesy-runner Jonathan Bosque to third, and stole second. Devin Dixon hit an RBI single that brought Bosque across home plate to tie the game. With the bases loaded after a Josh Shelly walk, Kolton Reynolds' fielder's choice gave Catalano the time to score, giving the team a 2-1 lead. The advantage for the team was short though as Johnson scored three runs in the bottom of the third.
Reynolds cut the Johnson lead to one with his solo home run in the fifth. The team was not able to score anymore runs in the game as the Royals added two more to take the first game 6-3.
Reynolds led with two RBIs.
A doubleheader on Saturday will conclude the series against the Royals for the Bulldogs (18-4, 8-1 AAC). The first game of the doubleheader is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
