Barbourville, Ky. - The No. 1 seeded Union Commonwealth University men's soccer team competed against No. 8 seeded Johnson in the first game of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament. The Bulldogs defeated the Royals 5-0.
James Mcfadden, Callum Edwards, Eduardo Forte, Alex Benitez, and Zak Hardman scored for the Bulldogs. McFadden and Forte each scored their first career goals. Benitez now has two goals this season, Hardman has five, and Edwards leads with 15. Edwards is currently tied for first in the AAC.
Callum Longworth led the Bulldogs with two assists, while Owen Lewis and Ivan Macias Rodriguez added one each. Tyler Wheatcroft remains the conference leader in assists, with a total of eight.
UCU took 19 shots, with nine on target, while Johnson managed four shots, with two on goal. Goalkeeper Daniel Harrison recorded two saves.
The Bulldogs are now 13-1-2 this season, while Johnson stands at 6-7-4. Union will host No. 4 Truett McConnell for the AAC semifinals at Williamson Stadium on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
