Johnson Names Jace Devault as Head Golf Coach

Knoxville, TN - Johnson Athletics is thrilled to announce the addition of Jace Devault as the new Head Golf Coach, marking a significant milestone in the university's athletic endeavors. Alongside this exciting development, we are delighted to reintroduce the Men’s Golf Program at Johnson University for the 2024-25 season and the launch of Women’s Golf coming in the 2025-26 season. The addition of golf will broadening our athletic offerings and provide students with yet another avenue for student development and sporting excellence.

“We are so excited to continue the expansion of our athletic program through golf,” said Athletic Director Brandon Perry. “Golf is a program we had a few years ago and we put it on hold as we began restructuring athletics at Johnson. Now is the perfect time to bring golf back and we found a great partnership with a great coach in Jace. Coach Devault is going to do some great things here and we connected in our vision for athletics.”

Coach Devault played golf at both Milligan University and Carson Newman University. He also played professionally for three years with appearances on the Korn Ferry Tour. He spent this pass season working as the Assistant Coach with Pellissippi Community College as it launched their golf program.

Coach Devault had a successful career in golf but his passion for both the sport and mentorship makes him uniquely situated to become Johnson University’s Head Golf Coach. His appointment reflects on JU’s commitment to fostering excellence, not only in athletics, but also in academics and discipleship, ensuring a well-rounded collegiate experience for our students.

“I simply want to give back to the game that gave me so much,” stated Coach Devault. “My coaches poured so much into me and a career in coaching gives me an opportunity to thank those who invested in me by giving to a new generation of athletes. Obviously, the game is fun. Who wouldn’t want to spend their days around a golf course. But I also want to get to know my players, their family, their hopes and dreams. I want to help them figure out what’s next in life while playing this game we love.”

The introduction of the Golf Program at Johnson University is a testament to our dedication to providing athletic opportunities for our student body. Golf is a sport known for its precision, focus, and strategic thinking, qualities that align perfectly with the values we uphold at Johnson University. Through this program, students will have the chance to develop their skills, forge lasting friendships, and represent their university with pride on the golf course.

“Obviously this is all new and we have a lot of work to do,” continued Coach Devault. “But we see this as opportunity to start something special, and build it the right way. I want to build a bond with my players that is lasting and goes beyond sport.”

Brandon Perry added, “we believe that sport is a vehicle to something bigger. It gives us a place for community and for growth. I have no doubt that this addition makes us better as a program and Im excited to see the lives that will be impacted by Coach Devault and Johnson Golf.”
