In a historic achievement, both the Johnson University Royals baseball and softball teams have secured spots in the NAIA National Championship Opening Rounds for the first time since transitioning to the NAIA and the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) in 2021. The softball team clinched their berth by winning the AAC Championship, while the baseball team earned an at-large bid following an impressive season.
Softball Team's Remarkable Season
The Lady Royals had an outstanding season, finishing with an overall record of 27-12 and a conference record of 20-8.Their journey to the NAIA tournament was highlighted by capturing their first-ever AAC Conference Tournament Championship. In the decisive game, Johnson delivered a dominant performance, defeating Brenau University 10-2 in five innings to secure the title. The Lady Royals are set to compete in the 2025 NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round. They have been placed in the Lawrenceville Bracket, hosted by Georgia Gwinnett College. The opening round is scheduled to take place from May 12 to May 15, with the winners advancing to the NAIA Softball World Series in Columbus, Georgia, from May 22 to May 28.
Baseball Team's Stellar Performance
The Royals baseball team also made waves this season, concluding with a 34-14 overall record and a 21-9 mark in AAC play. Their impressive performance throughout the season earned them an at-large bid to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round. JU Baseball made history as they became the first Royals team to be in the NAIA Top 25 Poll and they remained in the top 25 for the majority of the season. The Royals will participate in the 2025 NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round, competing in the Shreveport Bracket hosted by LSU Shreveport. The tournament runs from May 12 to May 15, with the bracket featuring a mix of top-ranked teams. The winners from each opening round bracket will advance to the Avista-NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho, scheduled for May 23 to May 31.
