Knoxville, TN – In a hard-fought, physical match, Johnson and St. Andrews played to a 0-0 draw in their Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday. Both teams had opportunities to score, but solid defensive efforts and several cards defined the match.
Despite several offensive pushes, neither team could break through, as Johnson's defense, anchored by goalkeeper Bruno Bobato, made five saves to keep the visitors at bay. On the other end, St. Andrews' keeper, Cristobal Romero, had two saves to maintain his clean sheet.
St. Andrews was led by Tomas Canale, who recorded four shots on goal but couldn't find the back of the net. Johnson managed five shots, with two on target from Robert Platt, but they were unable to capitalize on key chances.
The match grew increasingly tense in the second half, with both teams seeing red. Johnson's Gianadres Franceschi and Joaquin Saaverdra, along with St. Andrews' Pablo Diezhandino, were all sent off late in the game, leaving both sides to finish the match with fewer players.
The Royals will look to regroup before their next match on the road against Milligan on Saturday, September 28.
