Johnson Softball Battled
Kingsport, TN - In a hard-fought extra-inning game between Tennessee Wesleyan and Johnson University, Tennessee Wesleyan emerged victorious with a 4-3 win. The loss does not eliminate the Royals from the AAC tournament but only makes their path to the first ever AAC Championship a difficult one. The Royals are in a familar situation as they have faced difficult situations all year and risen to the occasion.
Head Coach Dayna Carter said, "We have been in some real battles all year and we have come out on top in many of them. This one was tough for sure but we were right there. We know we are good enough to get this done and these girls will not back down from the challenge. Just need to come out tomorrow and play with the same grit and determination we have had all year long."
The game several key moments but none were bigger than the 7th inning. The game was tied 2-2 when the Royals came to bat in the seventh inning. Johnson found themselves with runners on second and third and only 1 out and were unable to capitalize on that moment. The real heartbreak came in the top of the 8th when Tennessee Wesleyan's Phillips delievered a two run homerun. In the bottom of the 8th, the Royals were able to get one back with a leadoff homerun by Megan Armstrong. But they were not able to pick up the sencond run they needed and the hard fought game ended with the Royals coming up short.
The Royals will need to dust themselves off as they take on Truett McConnell at 1pm tomorrow to avoid elimination from the tournament. A win will put the Royals in a second game tomorrow night at 5pm and they would take on the winner of Columbia and Brenau. Follow all the action of the AAC Softball Tourament right here.
