KNOXVILLE, Tn- The Royals opened their 2022 season at the Maryville Tournament this past weekend, as they played matches on September 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
In these matchups, the Royals dropped their match with Maryville (3-0), came up just short against Rhodes (3-2), and defeated Washington and Lee (3-1).
Across the tournament, the Royals attack was led by Sydney Smith, who amassed 40 kills in 3 matches. Maddy Taylor, Emma Hannaford, and Jensen Davis had 20, 19, and 18 respectively.
Gentry McReynolds led the Royals in digs with 58, while Hannah Lukey had 43. Marissa McMahon and Sydney Smith each added 41 as well.
Hannah Lukey also amassed 103 assists across the three-day tournament.
The Royals got their first win of the season on the last day of the tournament, and look to use it as momentum, as they travel to take on their first AAC opponent of the year in Bryan College on 9/8.
