KNOXVILLE, TN – The Johnson University Royals extended their hot streak with two wins, defeating the University of Pikeville in a thrilling five-set match and sweeping Appalachian Bible College in straight sets. The Royals now stand at 10-1 for the season.
Royals Defeat Pikeville in Five Sets
Johnson (9-1) edged Pikeville (5-2) in a 3-2 battle (25-22, 24-26, 24-26, 25-16, 15-9). After dropping the second and third sets, the Royals rallied behind Abby Brown's 14 kills and Kiersten Bell's 10 kills to claim the fourth and fifth sets. Hannah Lukey contributed 20 assists and 16 digs, while Marissa McMahon led with 34 digs.
Dominant Sweep Against Appalachian Bible
In their second match, the Royals dominated Appalachian Bible College, sweeping 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-6). Johnson's serving shone with 19 aces, including four from Lily Richards. Ramiyah Thompson and Madeline Dieterich led with six kills each, while McMahon added seven digs and four aces.
The Royals, now 11-1, continue their season Tuesday, September 17, as they head to Bluefield to take on the Rams in a conference matchup.
