Royals Volleyball Heads to AAC Conference Tournament
Knoxville, TN- The Royals volleyball team is heading to the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) tournament as the fourth seed, set to face the fifth-seeded Bluefield Rams. The Royals wrapped up their regular season with an impressive 27-6 overall record and a 16-5 mark in conference play. This strong season has built anticipation and momentum as they enter the tournament with a healthy roster and high hopes for a successful run.
Head Coach Robin Vannoy spoke to the hard work and determination the team has shown throughout the season. When asked about her expectations for the tournament, she said, "The team has worked extremely hard on the court practicing and off during their conditioning with Coach Andrew. They have pushed each other to be better and have found ways to win. Our conference is one of the toughest, and anyone can beat anyone each day. We need to stay focused and control what we can in the match. We like our chances with everyone back from injuries."
The Royals' preparation has been bolstered by an outstanding coaching staff, as Assistant Coach Donnie Vannoy was honored as the AAC's Assistant Coach of the Year. His guidance, along with Coach Robin's leadership, has been pivotal in shaping a resilient and cohesive team.
Individual accolades have also poured in for the Royals. Marissa McMahon earned first-team all-conference honors, with teammates Hannah Lukey and Luci Morris recognized on the second team. These players have been integral to the Royals' success, bringing both skill and leadership to the court.
The team's academic success matches their athletic achievements, with a remarkable 17 players named to the AAC All-Academic Team. These players include Kierstin Bell, Abigail Brown, Taylor Cole, Madeline Dieterich, McKenna Henry, Hannah Lukey, Jordan Martin, Marissa McMahon, Haley Mitchell, Aubrey Mollenhauer, Kallie Powell, Emma Renner-Holt, Maddy Taylor, Ramiyah Thompson, Juliette Wilkerson, and Kaitlyn Wilkerson.
