Men’s Tennis Fall Summary
November 14, 2024
Knoxville, TN- The Royals men's tennis program have officially wrapped up their fall season and now will eagerly await the start of the spring season on January 25th.
The Royals team competed in 4 dual matches this fall ending with a 2-2 record. The highlights of the dual match season came with winning both matches on our yearly Indiana road trip defeating IU Southeast 7-0 and Hanover College 5-2. The Royals also took a match from Covenant College and three matches from Midway College, improving on scores from the previous seasons. In addition to the dual match portion of the fall season, the Royals also competed in the ITA Regional Tournament at Georgetown College, the Maryville College Invitational, and the University of Tennessee Southern Firehawk Shootout.
Throughout the fall, the Royals were highlighted on the doubles court by sophomore Miguel Sanchez Loo who led the team in doubles wins with 4. Impressively, every Royal on the roster was able to log a doubles win throughout the shorter fall season. In singles, the Royals were led by Freshman Emanuel Casco who logged 5 victories. As a team, the Royals logged 12 pairs of doubles wins and 19 singles matches throughout the fall.
The Royals also bid farewell to senior Noah Brown from Bellville, Ohio as he will graduate in December. Brown came to the Royals as a transfer student in the spring of 2021 and made an immediate impact playing at the top of the lineup for both doubles and singles. Brown has played all up and down the lineup, playing every single position in the singles lineup at some point in time in his career, spending most of his time at the #2 and #4 positions. Brown leaves the Royals as the all-time singles leaders for the men's tennis team and is third for overall wins. He is tied for second for all-time men's conference wins and has been a part of more team victories than any other Royal. Coach Hale had this to say about Noah, "It is really tough to summarize the importance and impact that Noah has had on this program. While he has definitely filled up the stat sheet, he was the type of competitor and leader that I constantly pointed to as an example for how to approach the game. He has grown as a person and has helped our team grow exponentially and I could not be more thankful and proud of him."
The spring for the Royals will feature an incredibly young team with the departure of Brown. The Royals will play with a line up of one junior, five sophomores, and three freshmen. The lone upperclassman will be Mason Wrisley who will now have the most win shares on the team. He will be joined by Sophomores Sanchez Loo, Pedro Ozelim, Benjamin Barrios, Felippe Amore, and Igor Parolis, all who logged substantial time in the top 6 as freshmen. Casco, Levi Lubbers, and Gabor Szabo will also make an impact as freshmen in the spring and AAC calendar.
Coach Hale previewed the season like this, "We have an incredibly talented team with a very high ceiling. We've already seen a huge jump in the level of play from Mason and our crew of Sophomores from last year and our freshmen showed this fall that they are going to be impactful in the spring. Our primary goal is to really put in the physical work here in the off season so we are ready to go for the spring season."
