JU Softball Advances in AAC
Kingsport, TN - In the opening round of the AAC Tournament between Union (KY) and Johnson (TN) on April 30, 2024, Johnson came out on top with a dominant 9-1 victory. The game featured a strong offensive performance from Johnson, led by M. Armstrong who hit a home run and had two RBIs. A. Moorhouse also had a big game with three RBIs, including a double and a single.
On the pitching side, L. Webber of Johnson was excellent, allowing only one run on one hit while striking out nine batters in five innings of work. In contrast, Union's pitchers struggled to contain Johnson's potent lineup, giving up 13 hits and nine runs in just over four innings.
Overall, Johnson's solid hitting combined with strong pitching led them to a decisive win over Union.
Head Coach Dayna Carter said, "This was a team effort. Our girls have been working hard all year and its great to see their work come together on the field and in a huge moment like this one. Tournament time is different. All you can do is play them one game at a time. We got the one we needed today and now its on to the next one."
Johnson's victory improved their record to 24-13, while Union fell to 15-25 on the season. Johnson moves on to face the #3 seed Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs on May 1 at 3pm. Follow the action at the AACSports softball tournament coverage.
