KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Royals baseball team celebrated Senior Day with a 9-4 win over Bob Jones University on Saturday, April 10th. The Royals jumped out to an early four run lead in the 1st inning as Tyler Shelton, Gavin Miles, Blake Howard, and Zack Webber all drove in runs. Johnson added another run in the bottom of the 4th before putting up another crooked number in the 6th. Matt Williams, Rives Marshall, Gavin Miles, and Blake Howard all batted in runs to bring the Royals to their total of nine runs in the game. On the mound, senior Andy Riley got the start for the Royals, pitching four innings and giving up one earned run. Seniors Travis Torosian and Clay Turpin were efficient in relief, only giving up one earned run over three innings.
The Royals celebrated ten seniors on the day. Clay Turpin, Blake Howard, Tyler Lopes, Kevin Ewing, Andy Riley, Drew Toro, Travis Torosian, Hunter Ross, Josh Stahlman, and Timothy Howard were all recognized for their contributions to the baseball program over the past four years. Interim Head Coach Ryan Bruce was pleased that Royals got the win on Senior Day saying,"What a great day celebrating our group of seniors. So proud of every one of these guys and all they have accomplished. Great to get a win on their Senior Day!"
The Royals continue their 2021 campaign this weekend as they head to Winston-Salem, NC for a three game series with Carolina University.
